About me
Karen Sanders is currently the Special Education Coordinator over Autism and Behavior for Forney ISD, supervising several other behavior specialists. She has a son on the spectrum which spurred her interest and drive for supporting students with autism. Karen is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has worked as a Special Educator since 2003 with her first classroom being a high school self-contained behavior unit. She participated in developing and implementing the inclusion program for behavior students in Garland ISD (BASE program) and has worked as a parent and in-home trainer for students in several districts. Karen led a district wide social skill group for high and elementary school students with autism both as a teacher and behavior specialist. She has been a behavior specialist/autism specialist since 2008 and has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (principal certification) participating in a District Wide Improvement Committee as well as Campus Improvement Team supporting the Special Education perspective. She has presented district wide as well as at regional service centers and her love for students keeps her pursuing new learning and coaching others to do the same. Karen loves to help teachers with developing self-made curriculum supports (task activities, social narratives, etc.) to grow teachers into being proactive versus waiting on a district curriculum so that students can actively participate in learning.
